"The Sims 2" Nude Cheat Code Targeted

Wednesday July 27, 2005
Recently, "Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas" had its ESRB rating changed to Adults Only, previously it was 17+. The reason for the change was the Hot Coffee mod, that makes sexually explicit material available within the game. My question is, violence (killing people, carjackings!) is okay for 17 year olds, but sexual content, something we bombarded with daily, is not? Now that lawmakers are after Take Two Interactive (and I'm guessing votes for the next election year), a lawyer from Florida has decided to go after Electronic Arts for its content in "The Sims 2," a life simulation. They are after Electronic Arts because of the cheat codes and patches that remove the blur on Sims when they are naked or using the toliet. When they use the toliet, they are fully clothed. Now if you have used this cheat, you would know that what is seen from this cheat code is exactly what would you see on a Barbie doll.

According to a quote from Softpedia, the lawyer, Jack Thompson, doesn't even believe the Ken and Barbie figures should be in the game. Mattel, watch out, he'll be after you next. If we let 8 year old little girls play with Barbie and Ken, there is no reason a teen can see the same thing in a game. Should we ban Barbie dolls?

In order for a gamer to have sexually explicit nude skins, they have to download them from another gamer or create themselves. Maxis cannot control (nor should they be responsible for) what type of custom content people create.
