And the Most Pirated Game of 2008 is....

"Spore!" EA's Spore is the winner of this year's most pirated games list, according to G4tv, with roughly 1.7 million illegal copies downloaded. It's not surprising the hyped up game makes the top of the list. Gamers have been waiting years for "Spore" to make its way to our desktops. Makes sense that the number of pirated copies would exponentially grow with then number of legit copies sold.

Another reason pirated copies is the game's DRM (digital rights management). "Spore" originally could be only installed on 3 computers before the user had to contact EA for permission to install "Spore" again. This was later increased to 5 times. This is didn't change the opinions of those who are against limiting the number of installs. My big worry is if EA closed down. Twenty years down the road we shouldn't have to worry about activating the game. Hey maybe some of us will have our antique computers running to show kids, what it use to be like!

Remember kids - pirating games is illegal. The best way to go is to simply not buy the game and support the publishers with less restrictive DRM.
