The 2011 Game Developers Conference, which takes place between February 28th and March 4th, is a gathering of the game industry's best and brightest. It's a place where designers and other professionals share their insights on the game-making business for the benefit of others in the field.
New to this year's conference is a postmortem series on classic games, offering a glimpse into the thought processes behind some landmark titles and how the work inspired ideas for future releases.
The unofficial king of computer sim games, Will Wright, will be on hand to discuss his helicopter action game Raid on Bungeling Bay and how certain concepts led to the creation of the groundbreaking SimCity five years later.
Other notable classic game postmortem speakers include Peter Molyneux, who essentially started the "god game" genre with Populous and will be receiving the Lifetime Achievement Award at the event, and David Braben, who created the most ambitious and inventive space sim of its time with Elite.
Early registration for the San Francisco-based conference, which allows you to receive passes at a 35% discount, ends on January 24, 2011 at 11:59pm PST.
