SimCity Social is now available on Facebook, and publisher Electronic Arts seems a wee bit miffed at all of the other city-building games that have appeared on the social platform:
"Several have tried to copy our decades-long award-winning formula and several have failed. They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and while we're flattered we believe that one should never settle for less than the best and original."
Of course, when the "best and original" has been in mothballs for several years, you can't exactly fault other publishers from trying to address a big, giant hole in the market since SimCity went dark.
SimCity Social is also quite a bit different from the SimCity titles of old, as there are now energy limits to what you can do in a given play session, and of course, you have to recruit more and more friends to get the most out of the game.
There's also an emphasis on product placement for advertisers, with Dunkin Donuts and Mercedes-Benz among the first in-game products featured.
Dunkin Donuts lets you gift "coffee boosts" and "donut boosts" to your energy-deficient friends, while owners of the Mercedes-Benz car factory can produce 2013 Mercedes-Benz A-Class vehicles and billboards. Expect more licensed items to appear as the game grows in popularity.
More details about the game can be found on my SimCity Social profile page.
