Spring Training Cactus League Stadiums in Arizona

One of the many wonderful aspects of Arizona's Cactus League baseball is that all ten stadiums used by the 15 Major League baseball teams during Spring Training are located within the Greater Phoenix area. That means driving distances are manageable no matter where you live or where you are staying if you are visiting during the month-long schedule of pre-season baseball games.

If you're a baseball fan or traveling with one, familiarize yourself with each of the 10 Cactus League stadiums, their seating charts, and ticketing information so you can see the teams you want to see and sit in the area where you'll be most comfortable, paying special attention to the type of seats and if there's shade. If you want to save money, look for tickets in the berm—or grassy area around the outfield—if you don't mind giving up a physical seat.

Fans love Spring Training because it's much more intimate than a season MLB game and players are often available for pictures and autographs before or after their games. Look for "Autograph Rows" or similarly named areas when you visit your stadium for a chance to see your favorite players up close.

Camelback Ranch in Glendale is the Spring Training home of the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Chicago White Sox. With a seating capacity of over 10,000 spectators in the stands and another 3,000 in the grass, it's one of the largest of the Spring Train stadiums in Arizona. The lawn seating covers the entire outfield and despite being farther from the infield action, it's a fun experience to bring a blanket and have a picnic with friends while watching the game. If you're looking for comfort, all of the stadium seats have backs at Camelback Ranch, unlike some other venues which only use bench seats.

The stadium is located in the West Valley and close to Westgate Entertainment District, University of Phoenix Stadium, and the Gila River Arena. Despite being known as Glendale Stadium, it's technically located in the city of Phoenix right on the border with Glendale. From downtown Phoenix or the Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, it's about a 25-minute drive and there's free parking available at Camelback Ranch.

Ohio residents who want to travel for Spring Training will surely end up at Goodyear Ballpark, home of the Cleveland Indians and the Cincinnati Reds. Even before the games start for the day, spectators can stop by the stadium in the morning and watch the teams warm-up and practice for free. Goodyear Ballpark is also considered one of the most comfortable stadiums in the area since the seats are wider than most, padded, and offer lots of legroom.

The stadium is located in the city of Goodyear in the West Valley, close to Phoenix International Raceway where NASCAR racing takes place. It's about 25 minutes from Downtown Phoenix by car and the same distance from the Phoenix Airport, but the ballpark is adjacent to the smaller Goodyear Airport which receives smaller regional flights and may be more convenient if you don't plan to stay in Phoenix.

Hohokam Stadium

Hohokam Stadium is located in Mesa, Arizona, in the East Valley. It used to be the Spring Training Baseball home stadium for the Chicago Cubs, but they moved to Sloan Park in 2014 and, after a renovation, the Oakland Athletics—better known as the A's—moved into Hohokam Stadium in 2015. Only the upper-level seats get shade during the day, so make sure to pack a hat and sunscreen if you're seated close to the field and in full sun all day.

The stadium is only 20 minutes from Downtown Phoenix or 15 minutes from the airport, so it's easy to reach. The parking lots open two hours before games start but tailgating is particularly popular before A's games, so make sure to get there early to stake out your spot and party with your neighbors.

American Family Fields is the closest stadium to Downtown Phoenix and home to the Milwaukee Brewers during Spring Training. The stadium was previously known as Maryvale Stadium but after undergoing a major renovation in 2019, it changed to the current name to complete the transformation and match the name of the Brewers' primary field in Milwaulkee. It's located in the neighborhood of Maryvale and is about 15 minutes from Downtown Phoenix by car or an hour via public transportation.

The 2019 remodel makes American Family Fields one of the most state-of-the-art fields in the Phoenix area. The parking lot has ample space for visitors and all of the 7,000 stadium seats have backs so you can enjoy the game and not worry about feeling sore later. The lawn seating around the outfield is even more casual and gives spectators the best chance at catching a home run ball.

Peoria Stadium is part of the Peoria Sports Complex and was the first Spring Training facility built to accommodate two teams, the San Diego Padres and the Seattle Mariners, with a clubhouse for each. When the Mariners are the home team, their dugout is on the third-base side while the Padres have their home dugout on the first-base side.

The stadium is located in the northern suburb of Peoria, and gameday traffic can stretch out the trip from Downtown Phoenix up to 40 minutes by car. Once at the stadium, there are seating options for up to 12,000 guests ranging from luxury seats to a spot on the grass. If you're bringing young kids, The Cove is an area specially designed for them with a playground, splash pad, and mini-baseball diamond to play on—of course with views of the field so parents can watch their kids and the game at the same time.

The stadium Salt River Fields at Talking Stick is the Spring Training Baseball home of the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies. Being the stadium where Arizona's team plays, the games at Salt River Fields are some of the most attended during all of Spring Training and especially sought-after games can see crowds that outnumber the 11,000 maximum capacity. Especially when the Diamondbacks are playing be sure to buy tickets early as they typically sell out.

Salt River Fields is the first stadium in Major League Baseball to be built on Indigenous land as it's located on the Salt Water Pima—Maricopa Indian Community. It was a joint project between the two MLB teams and the Pima and Maricopa tribes that live on the land and borders the town of Scottsdale. From Downtown Phoenix it takes about 30 minutes to reach the ballpark, although keep rush hour traffic in mind when traveling to a night game.

Scottsdale Stadium is the Spring Training home of the San Francisco Giants. The stadium is located in Old Town Scottsdale, known for its great shopping and even better restaurant scene. Because the ballpark is within walking distance of Downtown Scottsdale, the area often fills up after games have ended as the crowds migrate from the stadium to the nearby bars and restaurants.

Scottsdale Stadium is about 20 minutes from Downtown Phoenix by car depending on traffic and as one of the most populated suburbs in the Phoenix area, parking can be difficult. There are paid garages in the area although the closest ones to the stadium are most likely to fill up quickly on game days. You may also be able to find free street parking in the area, but make sure to arrive at least an hour or two before the game starts or you may end up walking several blocks. If you have time to kill before the first pitch, it's a perfect excuse to grab a bite or a drink in Scottsdale.

Sloan Park is the official name of what used to be called—and is still sometimes referred to as—Cubs Park. The previous name comes from the resident team who calls the park home, the Chicago Cubs, and the stadium was designed to reflect Wrigley Field where they play in Chicago. With a seating capacity of 15,000 spectators, it's the largest Spring Training facility in Arizona.

The ballpark is located at the western edge of Mesa and bordered by the city of Tempe and the Salt River, with paid parking available on-premises. This stadium is uniquely positioned for the ultimate game day experience and can easily be turned into a full-day excursion. At the nearby Riverside Park, there's a lake for urban fishing, picnic areas, a fantastic playground, and other amenities you can enjoy before or after the game.

On the outskirts of the Greater Phoenix Area in the fun-named suburb of Surprise is the Surprise Stadium, located in the northwest corner of the metropolitan region and about 35 minutes from Downtown Phoenix without traffic. Here is where fans can see the Kansas City Royals and the Texas Rangers play throughout the Spring Training season. The stadium is situated inside a larger sports complex that both teams use to practice before games, so get there early to spot your favorite players warming up. If you want to sit by your favorite team, the Rangers' dugout is along first base and the Royals' is along third base.

Parking is free at Surprise Stadium and you'll find tailgaters set up in the parking lot before the game starts. There are snack bars within the complex to purchase something to eat or drink, but Surprise Stadium also allows fans to bring in their own food. Guests are permitted to bring snacks inside of a clear plastic freezer bag as well as a water bottle, but no other outside beverage types are allowed.

Right next to the Phoenix airport and just 15 minutes south of Downtown Phoenix is the Tempe Diablo Stadium, Spring Training home to the Los Angeles Angels. Parking at Tempe Diablo Stadium is not free and there isn't much of it. Gates open two hours before game time and if it is a popular opponent like the Cubs or the Diamondbacks, you'll be parking on city streets around the stadium complex and potentially walking several blocks to the entrance gates.

The Tempe Diablo Stadium is not well-protected from the sun and even in March, the Arizona sun can be intense so don't forget a hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen to protect your face. The metallic bleacher seats easily get warm when the sun is shining directly on them, so bringing a cushion or blanket to sit on is a good idea for a more comfortable experience.
