Top RollerCoaster PC Games

By Courtney Marchelletta, About.com

People have been visiting theme parks for years. Sure the water rides, ghost houses, and merry-go-round is fun, but the main attraction has always been rollercoasters. If you are one of those people who just can't get enough of rollercoasters, you should try one of these computer simulation games. You'll design and perhaps ride your rollercoasters, and maintain your own park.

"RollerCoaster Tycoon 3" is the long leader and most popular choice when it comes to rollercoaster and theme park games. You'll ride the coasters, customize the food stalls and shops, create your own family of visitors, and build water slides and rollercoasters. The Platinum version includes the "Soaked" and "Wild" expansion packs.

The sequel for "RollerCoaster Tycoon" doesn't change the gameplay, but adds new editors and new rides. The new editors for the theme park management game, includes a scenario editor and a ride manager. The biggest downside is it has the same graphics and interface as the original. This collection includes "RollerCoaster Tycoon 2" and its expansions.

3. "RollerCoaster Tycoon Gold"

The gold edition of "RollerCoaster Tycoon" (released in '90s) includes the original and both expansion packs for the game. A perfect gift for a gamer (or yourself) purely for nostalgia.

4. "NoLimits Roller Coaster"

Forget about managing a theme park, get right to the good part in "NoLimits Roller Coaster." What's the good part? Being able to design, build, and ride a roller coaster you created. The editor takes some time to get use to, but once you do you'll feel limitless in your power to build the fastest roller coaster on earth.

5. "Ultimate Ride"

"Ultimate Ride" does the one thing that "Rollercoaster Tycoon" does not offer - the ablity to ride rollercoasters you create. There are two main playing modes - Imagineering Mode and Build Mode. Imagineering mode challenges you to create rollercoasters with specific criteria. Build mode allows your imagination to run wild. The only limitation is the law of physics.
