By Courtney Marchelletta, About.com

Free sims are an easy to way to keep yourself entertained for a few hours - days with some games. Below are free sims I recommend downloading.

1. "Dink Smallwood"

I've spent hours playing "Dink Smallwood." The best way to describe the RPG game, is to compare it to Zelda. Even if you beat the game, there are mods created by fans to download.

2. "America's Army: Operations RECON"

"America's Army" was developed by the United States Army. The graphics are stunning, and gameplay will keep on the edge of your seat. A must have for military game fans.

3. "Caesar I"

"Caesar I" was first released in 1993, and is now being made available for free. It is a city building game, the first in a series of "Caesar" games. Don't expect too much from the game, just a trip down memory lane.

4. "Food Force"

The people of Sheylan, an island in the Indian Ocean, need your help. It's your team's job to provide food for millions of people in 6 missions.

5. "Virtual U"

You are the president of a university of college. Each year your performance is graded by board members. During the school year you will "determine tuition cost and allocate resources for all components of the university."

6. "SimCity Classic Online"

Play the classic version of "SimCity" online for free. The original "SimCity" is very fun to play, even after 10 years after its initial release.

7. "Small Ball"

Manage and train a baseball or soccer team online. Your team will grow as you play. In "Small Ball" you won't actually control the players as a game occurs, but you will manage and help the team succeed.

8. "FreeCiv"

This is an excellent alternative to "Civilization," for those of you who don't like spending a lot of money on games. The free sim is available for many operating systems.

9. "Mobility"

"Mobility" is a city building game similar to "SimCity." The focus is on solving economic and transport problems. The official website is in German, but an English version of the game is available.
