"The Sims" : Cooking Strategy Tips

Cooking may be a small part of the game, but it is vital.

By , About.com Guide

We all need to eat, so do our Sims! In the grand scheme of things, cooking may seem like a small part in their lives. But lots of socializing goes on during mealtime and they can die of starvation. It's also a time of comfort. For many sims it may be the only time they really get to sit, well, besides watching TV.

What You Need to Cook
The game comes with a variety of objects you can use to cook with. The vital ones are a fridge and microwave. A food processor increases the value of the meal; so it is a good thing to buy once you Sims have money. For Sims who have cooking skills, you'll want a stove. It's also handy to keep a smoke detector in the kitchen.

Cooking Skills

It would be logical to think your Sim gained cooking skills by practicing the craft. But no, instead Sims earn cooking skill points by studying a cookbook, that can be found in bookcases. Choose the study option when selecting a bookcase, and cooking will be listed. Your Sims should earn at least 2 cooking skill points before attempting to cook on the stove. The more cooking skill points, the less chances there are a fire will occur.

Who Should Cook

No, I'm not talking about whether the wife or husband should. Who should cook, depends on who works when, and who has the most cooking skills. The more cooking skill points a Sim has the more satisfying the meal, which means the less they'll have to spend on food!

Meals last about 8 sim hours. So a Sim who works late could cook breakfast for the rest of the family when he/she arrives home.

If none if your Sims like or want to cook, remember you can always order pizza! It's under services on the phone.
