For newbies or not?
"Comanche 4" is a fast-paced helicopter simulation, put in the pilot seat of the U.S. Army's RAH-66 Comanche. Novalogic has prided on their belief newbies can figure out the controls and be playing in five minutes. There is some truth to this, however, the missions are designed for advanced players. The missions become difficult after the first couple. Yes, challenges are good, but, when you have limited patience like I do, frustration takes over. Another source of frustration is that there is no in game save option. This is not to say the game is not good. Because its very good.
The graphics are impressive. The movement and actions of the helicopter affect the terrain. The water movement, explosions, smoke are awesome to watch because of the impressive detail. But this detail comes with a cost. The game will run choppy even with my Geforce2 card. But you can always turn down the options to avoid the choppiness. You'll notice during high action battles that the graphics become slow and choppy.
The multiplayer option is now available. You can play for free against others online. This is a great option if you get tired of the missions or you actually complete them all (Congrats to those who do). If multiplayer doesn't appeal to you and you are looking for something new to do with the game you could always try creating your own scenarios. "Comanche 4" comes with a scenario editor, that may take some time to learn, but it's fun sharing your work with others.
The missions are varied and challenging. Those who like playing shooter games will take to the controls quickly. "Comanche 4" is a combination of an action, shooter, and a sim. With this combination, and the easy use of controls this game will be a favorite of many.
