Use Your Money Wisely
Remember those good old days of playing DOS games? That is what "StarLines INC" reminds me of. The text and interface have the same feel and look to them. The interface is a bit clumsy, as the windows and scroll bars do not work quite the same as in Windows.
As expected, the background music is an odd space age sound. The game itself, has just a few sounds. I found it best to turn off my speakers, and play one of my own music CDs.
The tutorial passes for mediocre. It does an okay job of explaining different parts of the game, but lacks in bringing the whole gameplay concept together. A tutorial that guided you through a mission would have been beneficial. Instead of just telling how to do something, it should have shown how everything came together.
Even on the easiest level, my ship was constantly "falling apart" on me. Something was always breaking, even when just starting the game. And afterall the cost of repairs starts to add up. And once there's no money left, the game is over. There were a few other miscellaneous bugs that hindered gameplay.
You won't find this game at the store. You can order and download "Starlines INC" online for 20 (USD) dollars. To be honest, I haven't yet decided if the game is worth twenty dollars. It offers interesting gameplay, but the poor DOS-like graphics and interface turn me off.
"StarLines INC" is a game for someone who excels at multitasking. There is a lot of depth to the game, if you can get past the downsides. If a space trading sim sounds interesting, I suggest downloading the demo first, and then maybe purchasing the game.
Download a demo and purchase the game at the official StarLines INC website.
