Description:
Rocksmith is a music simulation game that lets you use any existing guitar so that you can learn while playing. The game features a library of 50 licensed songs that you can learn to play by following notes and chords with your guitar.
For those new to guitar playing, the game will adjust its difficulty by introducing single notes. Once you have single notes mastered, you’ll be able to move on to more complex chords until you are playing the actual guitar parts from each included song.
The key to the game is the "Rocksmith Real Tone Cable," a quarter-inch jack to USB cable that will connect your guitar (with a standard quarter-inch input jack) to the PC. The cable, measuring 11.25 feet in length, transforms the guitar’s analog signal to a digital one, allowing the game to recognize your input.
The software includes a variety of in-game pedal effects that can be used to create distortion, reverb, tremolo, and more, and players will be able to choose from lead, rhythm and combo compositions to hone their skills. A number of skill-oriented mini-games are featured in the game to help players refine their technique.
The main view of the game will show the guitar’s neck as players position their fingers over the strings to follow the notes. Behind the on-screen neck are lanes that correspond to the 22 frets, which have the song’s notes cascading down toward the screen in a similar manner to games like Rock Band and Guitar Hero. Once you start hitting the right notes, the game will start to increase its speed and open up more frets to use until you can learn the full 100% of a song.
The goal in Rocksmith is to have players learn each song well enough to play it on their own without the use of the game, effectively teaching players how to master specific songs through hands-on practice instead of staring at tabulature guides.
