Description:
Battlefront.com's series of historical war simulation games continues with Combat Mission: Fortress Italy, a standalone game available for PC and Mac. The game takes place during World War II, when the Allied forces begin their attempt to end Italy's involvement (known as the Mediterranean Theater). Part of an ongoing series, this particular installment will focus on the battle for Sicily. As with previous Combat Mission games, players will be able to choose from historically accurate forces as they use military tactics to gain an edge on their opponent.
Available in the game are the complete American, Italian, and German forces that fought in Sicily. Players will utilize such elite formations as the American Rangers, German Herman Goring Division, and Italian Bersaglieri while taking advantage of each faction's distinctive armaments and equipment. You'll be able to use such units as the Panzer Mk III, R-35 Light Tank, M3 GMC Halftrack, Semovente 90/53, Grille, and T30 HMC Halftrack.
The game is comprised of three campaigns, each following the perspective of the American, Italian, and German forces, as well as new standalone battles and computer-generated quick battles. In addition to the new units and setting, Fortress Italy marks the debut of Battlefront's enhanced Combat Mission engine that incorporates a number of added elements and refinements.
The new engine will allow for moveable waypoints, fog-of-war floating icons, a camera jump to groups, target armor arc command as well as new rendering shaders and both bump and normal mapping for added visual realism. The frame rates are designed to be improved and players that connect online will be able to pause the game during the real-time TCP/IP mode (as long as both players agree).
