The Bottom Line

"Flip or Flop: Home Edition" is a puzzle game with a home renovation theme. It's not a game that will take a lot of time to beat, but you enjoy the time that it takes to win; especially if you are a Tetris or Bejeweled fan.

Pros

  • addictive gameplay
  • colorful graphics

Cons

  • to renovate homes, you solve puzzles instead of picking the best upgrades

Description

  • Earn 3 million dollars to help your Grandmother keep her being taken by the government.
  • Buy houses and sell them for a profit.
  • Start out renovating trailer parks and work your way to fixing up houses in the rich neighborhood.
  • Renovate the houses to make a profit by making matches for areas that need to be fixed up.
  • Level of difficult for puzzles depend on how many areas need to be fixed up.

Guide Review - "Flip or Flop: Home Edition" Review (PC)

The developers had a great idea when they thought of "Flip or Flop: Home Edition." In the case, the game is a flop. An opportunity to create an entertaining game of renovating a house was wasted. Instead of having the gamer choose which items to fix up and how (wallpaper, paint color, that sort of thing), you only have to play a modified game of Bejeweled.

What does this game involve? You start out fixing up houses in the poor part of town, as your stash of money gets larger, you work your way through more expensive homes. Your ultimate goal is to make $3 million dollars.

To fix up the homes, you are are given a puzzle, where you have to move a row up or down to make a string of at least 3 matches. The picture you have to match represent a problem area in the house (such as doors, windows, wallpaper). To solve the puzzle and make the most money, you are required to make a specific number of matches for each problem area. If you make more matches then required, it will cost you. This is akin to making a boo-boo on paint color and having to repaint the wall.

I did have fun playing the game. It has an addictive quality, that commands you to sit there until you have beat the game. Download the demo, give it a whirl. Don't buy this game thinking that it's a decorating challenge. It is a puzzle game with a home renovation theme.
