Guide Review - "Railroad Pioneer" Review (PC)

It is 1830, you are the owner of a new railroad company, and you have taken on the mission of building your business from New York to the new land in the West. In "Railroad Pioneer" you will start with a short tutorial, which teaches very little. You are thrown into the game and forced to hunt for features that should have been explained in the beginning. As annoying as this is, it is possible to figure out the menus on your own and start to enjoy the gameplay.

As you start the missions in campaigns, you'll see much of the map is blacked out. You will have to create a team of pioneers, trappers, prospectors, and more, to explore the land and give your company more options. Exploring is often part of the mission. You'll need to find certain cities, and sometimes get goods (such as wood and textiles) to them.

The game does require a good amount of laying track and setting up trade routes between sources of goods and cities. Often times there will be sub-missions that give you a chance to earn more money and bonus points towards engines. Sub-missions can include bringing one good to another city. It is very easy to forget about the mission objective and put your efforts towards areas that you think needs work.

"Pioneer Railroad" started out by frustrating me, and I really didn't think I'd like it. I am now glad I worked past my initial frustration and found a game will a good mixture of exploring and management.
