Guide Review - "Silent Hunter 3" Review
An issue I have for many of the games that require the gamer to learn to control a vehicle, like a submarine or a plane, is that the controls are often difficult to learn. In the case of "Silent Hunter 3," while the manual is tiny, the Naval Academy walks you through the very basic controls. There are movies that show you what to do and text to walk you through. After the practice, you take an exam that shows you know how to control the sub.
The many of the missions have similar qualities. They will differ on location and a bit on the situation. You can choose to go on single missions, create your own missions, or take on the career mode. In the career mode, each career will be a different experience. Based on your performance you will earn renown for destroying the enemy and completing your mission goals. If your renown becomes negative, your career ends. So no, you can't rest on your laurels during your career.
Graphically "Silent Hunter 3" is amazing. As you go to different stations, you will see your crew hard at work. Beautiful graphics are important, but are nothing without enjoyable gameplay. "Silent Hunter 3" is a well-rounded game for serious players.
