"Stronghold 2" Review

About.com Rating twohalf out of Five

By Courtney Marchelletta, About.com

The Bottom Line

"Stronghold 2" is the third in the castle building series. Bugs, graphical glitches, and general boredom with the storyline the biggest problems I have with "Stronghold 2." On the plus side, the game does give you the option between economic and combat based missions.
Pros
  • 2 campaigns - economic or combat
  • free play mode
  • new buildings
  • multiple camera views
  • map editor
Cons
  • graphical bugs - people walking through buildings
  • general slow play/freezing
  • poor AI
  • overall dull gameplay

Guide Review - "Stronghold 2" Review

"Stronghold 2" puts you in the ruler's seat of a blossoming city during the Medieval time period. Your skills as a ruler are tested as you work through the levels. With each level, you are given more land, buildings, and tools to work with. The type of objectives you'll be asked to meet depend on which campaign you choose, economic or combat. The combat campaign focuses on the army, with the economic one on creating goods.

The gameplay is typical of city building games. Build a population, build buildings, create crops, take care of those crops, and get the food to the people. There is also an army to focus on. With free-form mode you decide what your objectives are, instead of letting someone else tell you what you need to do. One good feature of "Stronghold 2," is that when you are stuck you can get hints to help you get past a difficult spot.

Despite the fact, that I love city building games and the Medieval time, I had a difficult time getting into the gameplay and caring about my towns. The graphical glitches happened too often and the objectives, I feel like I have done many times before in other games. "Stronghold 2" isn't all bad. The map editor, camera views, and 3 playing modes are all great things "Stronghold 2" has to offer. It just wasn't enough to keep my interest.
