To make sure the game installs correctly, there steps you need to take each time you install a new game. Without following these steps, your game may freeze, not install properly, or give you error messages. The following steps were written for a computer with a Windows operating system.
Disk Cleanup is a handy tool that will delete unnecessary files. It will delete files in the recycle bin, temporary Internet files folder, temporary files, and the downloaded programs windows folder. This is a quick and easy way to free up disk space.
As an alternative to Disk Clean-up, you could download Crap Cleaner. It's what I use to make sure all the unwanted and unneeded files are gone.
ScanDiskScanDisk will search your hard drive for lost allocation units and cross linked files and directories. It will also automatically fix the errors, as long as you have that option checked. You should ScanDisk about once a month, regardless if you are installing software. It will help your computer to run smoothly and reduce errors.
Disk Defragmenter will organize the files on your hard drive, so it can retrieve the files easily. It's like putting your books in order by author. If the files are unsorted, the computer takes longer to find your files. Your games and other applications will run faster once your hard drive is defragged.
Close All Programs
When you open the installation program for a new game you'll probably see message asking you to close all programs before you continue. Close any windows you have open. To close items running in the background you will need to use the Control - Alt - Delete command, and close each one at a time. Proceed with caution. If you are uncertain as to what a program is, it's better to leave it alone.
