Before You Buy Video Cards

Video cards are probably the thing most gamers like to brag about, because they are a direct affect on the quality of graphics. The better the card usually means better graphics. Keep in mind this is not always the case. Less intense graphical games, won't benefit from having having the latest video card. Here are some important things to consider when deciding which card is right for you.

PCI vs AGP

PCI and AGP are types of slots in your computer. AGP is designed specifically for graphic cards. If you have an AGP slot, I suggest you buy an AGP card. The reason for this is that graphic cards are faster when in an AGP slot, opposed to a PCI slot. If you don't have an AGP card, don't fret. There are plenty of good PCI graphic cards.

Memory Capacity

The more memory you can afford the better. You'll find that many cards have 32 MB. If you can afford it, try to get a 64 MB card. For intense graphical games, you'll notice the difference.

Brand

Like other hardware you should go with a brand you trust and have had a good experience with. Well known brands tend to cost a bit more, but you'll get good quality and the reassurance you made a good purchase.

Price

If you can afford the lastest Geforce card, go for it. But if you have a limited budget, look around and you should find some good deals on cards. You don't always need the best card to get good graphics. Many sim games don't need the best graphics card out there.
