What is abandonware?

Definition: Games that are over 5 years old and are no longer being sold by the publisher are considered to be abandonware. The publishers have abandon the game and are no longer making profit from the game. Abandonware sites are illegal (publishers still hold the copyright to the games), and many of the sites acknowledge this. A few sites say they will take down games if the publisher contacts them to remove it.
