"Pet Pals Animal Doctor" Review: I don't know any kids that don't like animals. For the budding gamer and animal lover, "Pet Pals Animal Doctor" could be just the trick. It's a game of caring and healing animals, while using all the equipment available to real vets.

The game walks you through the first case. You are shown how to use the menus and are guided through the steps of helping the pet. The player is challenged to examine the pet, ask the owner the right questions, then use that information to run tests (stool tests, temperature, heart rate, etc) or monitor their condition. When enough information is gathered, a diagnosis is made and a treatment is prescribed. In earlier levels, the game will guide you through the process to keep you from straying to far from the problem.

All of the procedures done with the animals, are shown close up (yes, even the stool test). The player only has to click where blood needs to be drawn, and you will see a needle taking blood. Even surgery sometimes needs to be performed.

After the pet is seen, a score will be given based on the questions you asked, methods to find the problem, and the treatment method. The assistants will respond differently if the examination was not performed as well as it should, without making the player feel bad about themselves.

What about the variety, you ask? There are certainly enough problems and animals (not just cats and dogs) to keep the game interesting. Even after you master the easy level, solving them on the hard level is more difficult.

"Pet Pals Animal Doctor" is a good choice for kids because it is easy to learn and use, and should teach kids something in the process.
