Out of the Park Baseball 13 (OOTP 13) continues the text-based baseball management series from Out of the Park Developments. In addition to the 2012 Opening Day rosters and upcoming changes associated with the 2013 season, including Houston’s move to the AL West and the addition of a second wild card team for the playoffs, the game offers a number of enhancements and updates to its core engine.
OOTP 13 introduces a real-time simulation mode that will crunch the daily results of your league in the background while you tend to more pressing concerns, like viewing the free agent list, browsing team stats, adjusting pitching rotations, and more. From the league scores screen, you’ll be able to jump into any game in progress, allowing you to take over as manager.
Another key change is that the storylines from OOTP 12 are now more interactive, allowing you the opportunity to make key decisions over the course of a season that may hinder or help your team in its push for the playoffs. Your decisions can impact injury recovery time, team chemistry, player morale, owner attitudes, and more. This feature is optional.
OOTP 13 also features a revamped interface along with several new screens to help make managing your club more intuitive than in previous versions. A task manager will now relay important updates and unattended issues each time you view your manager’s home screen, allowing you to prioritize what needs to be done before the next big series.
Associations support multiple leagues in OOTP 13, and league playoffs now feature more customization, allowing owners to set first-round byes among other format changes. OOTP 13 also promises a more streamlined online component with one central hub that will make it easier to select which options and actions you want for your online league.
