'The Sims 2': Trying for a Baby & Pregnancy

How the Sims make a bundle of joy

Pregnancy does not magically happen in "The Sims 2" video game. Two of your Sims need to try for a baby. Sims can try to get pregnant in three places: the bed, hot tub, and clothing booth. Just because they try for a baby, does not mean that the woman becomes pregnant. There is a 60 percent chance of pregnancy on the bed, a 50 percent chance in the clothing booth (public woohoo), and a 25 percent chance in the hot tub. If your Sims are serious about becoming parents, they should try to make a baby on the bed, where the odds are best.

Trying for a Baby on the Bed

To try for a baby on the bed, a male and female Sim relax on a bed together. When the option to "try for baby" or "woohoo" shows up,  choose "try for baby" if you want your Sims to have a baby.

If you listen carefully after trying for a baby, you can hear a lullaby. To confirm the pregnancy, have both Sims relax on the bed and see if the "try for baby" option shows up. If it doesn't, then your Sim is pregnant. If you prefer to be surprised, you can wait and see if the telltale signs of pregnancy appear.

'The Sims 2' Pregnancy: Day One

Sim pregnancy lasts for three days — one day for each trimester. Sims act differently during the first day of pregnancy. Some women are unaffected, while others spend more time than usual in the bathroom.

On day one, a Sim may appear to be queasy when standing still, or she may throw up. Other changes involve motives (bladder, energy, hunger), which lower a little faster than normal.

Day Two

On day two, your Sim shows physical signs of pregnancy. Her belly will get a little bigger today, and she will change into maternity clothes. If the Sim has a job, a message pops up saying that she is no condition to work, and she has the day off with pay.

Motives continue to decline faster than one day one. From now on until delivery, it's a good idea to have someone else cook for the pregnant Sim. This way she can relax and stay as comfortable as possible.

Day Three

On day three, your Sim has a big belly and stays at home from work. As your Sim waddles around the house, she needs extra care. Her motives are depleting at a rapid rate. Take special care watching energy and hunger bars. If they get too low, the pregnant Sim may die.

Birth of Baby

Sometime on day three, the Sim delivers her baby. The camera will bring your attention to your Sim when she is ready to have the baby. The game pauses, and family members gather to watch the baby enter the world. If you save the game at this point before the baby is born, and you don't get the type of relations you want, you can restart the game and try again.

A screen shows up saying that a new family member is on the way. The new baby is in the Sim's arms. You need to choose a name for the baby. You can't change the name, so pick one you like.

The real fun of taking care of a baby and toddler comes soon. Maybe next time you'll have twins.
